ACA ACCREDITED

We are dedicated to providing a comfortable and secure camp experience for our campers.  Camp Azalea Trails is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), which means that we follow stringent standards to ensure that camp is a safe and healthy atmosphere.  We follow guidelines set by Girl Scouts of the USA through Safety-Wise.

STAFFING

All staff are required to participate in a multi-day training course one week prior to the first session of camp. Training will include an overview of programs and facilities, teaching and supervision skills, children issues and emergency procedures. Staff must be CPR and first aid certified.  Most staff members are college age and are interested in pursuing careers in child development, education or psychology, and really enjoy mentoring and working with children. Staff selection is based on character, morals, previous camp experience, ability to understand and effectively work with girls, specialties and references. All staff have passed a thorough background screening.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

There is a full-time Health Supervisor and Health Center at camp.  All medication and medical needs will be administered and addressed at the Health Center.  All medication will be collected by the Health Supervisor at camp Check-In.  If you need to discuss an medical needs or concerns prior to camp please contact the Camp Director at 909-307-6555

MEALS AND SNACKS

Camp menus are planned keeping in mind of nutritional requirements, special needs, and taste preferences of children.  Campers are encouraged to try new food items, but are always provided with simple alternatives.  If your camper has dietary restrictions [i.e. keep kosher, vegan, specific food allergies, or medical conditions (i.e. hypoglycemia or diabetes)], it may be necessary for you to provide some food choices for her.  This should be planned Two Weeks in advance with the Camp Registrar please call 909-307-6555.

CAMP PROGRAMS

On the first day of camp, campers plan which activities they would like to participate in while at Camp A.T. General camp activities include swimming, a low ropes course, archery, fencing, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking (grades 6 and up), arts and crafts, music and gardening.  In addition to pre-set activities, all units have the opportunity to try all activities, excluding horseback riding, which are for Horse Units and Everything You Love About Camp Units only.

CAMPER RECOGNITION

Camp is full of fun activities. Some of these activities meet requirements for earning a Try-It, badge or interest project. Each girl will receive a list of recognition requirements completed at camp. The Try-Its and badges can be purchased at the Council shops in accordance with each troop's procedures. Plus, all campers will receive a Camp A.T. patch and  T-shirt.

TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM CAMP

Your child’s camp experience begins when she climbs on board the bus for camp.  To encourage this bonding experience and relieve the traffic congestion on the narrow roads into camp we recommend having your child ride the bus to camp.  All buses leave from and return to the Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council Program and Service Center in Redlands.

CAMP A.T. STORE

The camp store will be open after lunch for campers to purchase Camp AT merchandise and other camp essentials that may have been forgotten at home.  You may purchase a gift card for your camper to use at the camp store.  Gift cards say be purchased ahead of time or at camp check-in. Gift Card Order Forms are enclosed in camp confirmation packets.  Any monies not spent at camp may also be used at Council Retail Shops.

CAMPERSHIPS

Through generous donors, campers may qualify for a portion of the camp fee. The Council makes every effort to use available money fairly and to assist as many girls as possible. Camp Financial Assistance Applications must be sent in along with the 2010 Camp Registration Form and the $50 deposit. Camperships are awarded based on need. All applications are handled in a confidential manner.  To make sure camperships can be awarded to as many girls as possible, they will be awarded for one session of camp only.

NOTE: If you would like to make summer resident camp possible for a girl, please contact Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council at (800) 400-GIRL (4475). All donations are tax-deductible.
